It did sometimes bother me that Mal and crew when blasting through places without admitting that they were doing lots of damage. And this world doesn't have healing beds. Well, not out on the frontier anyway.
“If you hit someone hard enough to knock them out then you’ve already done serious damage. You can kill someone like that. Kill them.”
Mal took a second to glare at Jim, but if he wanted to be captain, then Jim was letting him deal with the captain-type complaints. He leaned against the corner of the building and pulled the brim of his hat down to cover his smirk as he watched the street.
“I killed three or four like that,” Jayne agreed. “I ain’t exactly sure on number four because he was already bleeding good from a bullet in the gut so I ain’t exactly positive it was my fist that ended him.”
Jim almost choked to death at that announcement. He could imagine the horrified look on Blair’s face.
“Neanderthals,” Blair finally announced in a low, hissed tone that suggested he was feeling more offended than usual. “Man, you two are total and complete Neanderthals.”
“Yep,” Mal agreed. “And now we’re going to go shoot some folk. Try to stay out of the way.”LOL! Poor Blair
( ... )
Jim has learned, I think, to temper a few of his rougher edges. He was a frontier cop, so with his rule-breaking personality to begin with, I think he had quiet a few. Being in the Institute would have given him a harder edge, but when it comes right down to it, Blair and his big eyes are hard to stand up to.
Now Mal is learning that same rule.
And yes, I think Mal and Jayne make a good pair if only to keep them from torturing other people.
You so made my day with the updates! I had two to read and so two treats for me!! Lots of LOLs! Especially when Mal asks of he looks like a common thief then thinks twice! Also loved Jim's helplessness in the face of Mal and Blair's intransigence. Still adoring this fic! More please soon! :)
Thank you so much. I do like this crew in part because of the disconnect--the brutal, violent world and the sharp, sharp humor. I'm glad I could bring that across on the page.
