I think Xander's the only one who'll have any chance of getting through to Dawn and making her see the necessity, and ~maybe come as close to forgiveness as she's able. Acceptance, at least...Spike would be able to handle anything short of outright hate.

I love the little tossed-off line at the start, about how every time Xander forgave him, it made him feel worse, tore his heart out to hurt Xander, etc. He's ~so not used to being loved back. He doesn't think he deserves forgiveness, or love. Xander's going to have to really work to make Spike feel it, and accept it, himself.

You want to wrap this up in another chapter, but I don't see how. You've got Dawn, possible Willow, at least one good, emotional loving scene between Spike and Xander, Vovka/soldiers helping or leaving, and what about Giles to mention. Or sequel/time stamps, as I said...~eyes you hopefully

You know it's a great fic when you leave 'em whining for more.

I want to hug Spike, but I doubt he'd let me.

That whole "you shouldn't be alive" rant sounds to me like Spike's aiming it at himself, really. D:

It's damn hard to balance the good of "the world" against the people you love. Obvious but painfully true.

Um, vampire therapy? Feeling emotionally constipated? Kick the shit out of something till it all comes out. Although, I think some of what he was yelling at the scavengers was meant for himself too.

Wow, Spike's having a much more intense (and violent!) reaction than Xander! But that's Spike for you isan't it, wears his heart on his sleeve.
I hope he realises that it will get better. It was Buffy's choice, and not theirs. She got to die a slayer, saving the world. That's worth something.
*Hugs the boys*
