That used to happen to me until I noticed the first commenter merely made a sort of place holder until she read the chapter and now I do that too on the rare occasions I come across a Butterfly post early.
Kennedy got told, always a good thing. Pouty, emotional!blackmailing Willow got stood up to, yay! And Bonnie got to hear her dad being strong, again, always good. Spike realized Xander's the only one of the people he's cared for who's loved him back, not used him.
I was cheering Xander on and thinking great, kickass chapter...until Buffy turned on them. What she said to Spike was, imo, unforgiveable.
And I notice Giles is still in the house, damn it!
I really dislike Kennedy quite a lot. I was glad you're enjoying it, and I agree that Buffy was out of line, but sadly, I took that from canon. Many of Buffy's lines are lifted straight from canon, and I'm reading them thinking... WTF... who the hell is this girl? And yes, Xander backed down on Giles, but he's vetoing Buffy on the going it alone.
I really do think Buffy's attitude this season is odd... to say the least. There are lots and lots of people fighting, and while a slayer has an advantage, she's not unique.
And you're right that Angelus is not going to want to talk about Xander... ever. Angelus recognized what Spike is learning: the boy has a heart of steel and he will not back down when he thinks he's right, and not even the threat of death will not make him back off.
And that "I'm the slayer!" line really bugs me. There ARE other people out there fighting evil, like the various covens that Giles probably knows about-and maybe Willow and Tara might have had some contact with. Angel's crew, and ~his contacts. Various shamans, mages, and whatnot that they've encountered over the years-if they themselves aren't good or willing, what about ~their circles and contacts?
If Willow can do a spell per canon to activate all the Potentials, then why can't they do some kind of spell to locate beings of use in this fight? Spotlight the "active good" warriors of all kinds. Er, spotlight them very discreetly, so they don't get EATEN, of course.
Yeah, that shocked me when I was reading. I thought... wait... I thought we had covens and the Angel/LA group and even guys like Groosalugg. And then... THEN there are the military people who clearly have learned a thing or two if Riley's return was anything to go by. *sigh*
Heck, there's plenty of neutral/evil types who wouldn't want the world to end, too! It's a matter of gathering their many varied resources, not just going into the fight, bashing away with sheer strength.
I guess in Buffys world being the Slayer mean she has open leeway to be rude. Someone else is putting their life on the line? Well, that can't be as important as Buffy, no sir! :(
Giles and Wood did set up Spike and attempt to kill him. Wood did use the trigger that only the First knew about (because the first had taken his mother's form). I'm trying to keep the events as close to canon as I can... the only changes are the ones that come about because of this new Xander.
Spike's POV is fun... he is so unexpected, like being the only one on email--to me, that's the essence of Spike. Besides, I really was curious about what would be going on in his head as Buffy laid into him after all he'd suffered.

Sadly, logic had left the building by then.
