[Jack is home from his seaside adventure and immediately writes out four very quick notes to certain people, not bothering with filters or any of that rubbish:]
[ if Jack is paying attention, the pirate may be able to see a quick flash of metal amidst the greenery and rain out of the corner of his eye. and if he doesn't? then maybe the loud splash a little ways up from the bridge will. ]
[ John resurfaces abruptly when Jack calls out and the man splutters and gasps, narrowing his eyes to slits as he looks around, before beginning to paddle lamely towards the embankment. ]
[ after being unceremoniously dumped into the river after twelve days of captivity, John is a little more than disorientated at the moment and instinctively tries to jerk away from his grip and vault onto the bank himself and regain his bearings. and escape this time. ]
[The pirate immediately lets go and watches this mad dash. He knows intervention will probably earn him a punch in the nose at this point, and isn't eager for that.] Easy there, John; you're back. They've let you go.
[ John doesn't reply and brushes his hair out of his eyes - how the hell had his drill sergeant let him get away with such blatant regard for regulations, he wonders - and tries to get his breath back. his leg is troubling him, trembling and aching, but he stands firm and turns his attention onto the other man, eyes flickering to the gun tucked into his belt. ]
[Jack notices the doctor's gaze and lifts the gun free, holding it out to him by the barrel. A gesture of trust, on his part---though it doesn't seem John is all "with it" at the moment.] The Malnosso; they took you. I found this---here. You alright?
[ that saves him the trouble of taking it by force, but the gesture causes all sorts of alarm bells in his head until he realizes that's his gun the other man is offering. ]
'Course not. [ John mumbles quickly and without thought, licking his lips nervously and not taking the bait, although his eyes are fixed on the weapon. not yet. ] One of them?
[Sparrow simply releases it into the other man's possession. It IS his gun after all, and a gun is a very personal thing for a man.] They've stolen your ability to speak, then, have they? Bastards. When they set me free, they wired me brain up to speak bloody French.
My mouth is working perfectly fine. [ having his gun back in his hand is comforting and he resists the urge to aim it at the other man. ] Who are you with?
[The initial answer that springs to mind is "Buffy," but Jack quickly realizes how complete inappropriate and wrong it would be to GIVE that answer. With? Who is he ever with?]
Me, mate. Jack Sparrow. Captain Jack Sparrow. I'm with myself, as always.

[Typically Jack would draw his own weapon, but the last thing he wants is a standoff with John Watson.]
