I had so much fun at the art museum today. I don't know why I don't go more often. I'm going to start. And even though Tyler is brilliant and we had amazing discussion/arguments on art, I found myself at some points just wishing I'd have gone by myself. It just felt like such a personal thing, I don't know. I'd love nothing more than to just waste ( Read more... )

Yes, I actually do recommend alone, because sometimes you want to stay longer at certain pieces, and contemplate on your own. IT IS FUN. YES GO MORE. You'll find out a lot about yourself.

ps: take me with you. lol. YES. I know that totally contradicts what I said above.

Oh, I can totally relate to your wish to enjoy an art museum on your own. The only person I really like to visit museums with is my Gran. Everyone else is starting to get on my nerves pretty soon, because I want to give some things my full attention or just stare at them for hours for different reasons.

That painting is disturbing on so many levels, her eyes (or lack thereof) is scary. How large is this painting?

That's because your Gran is AWESOME, duh.

I know. The eyes freaked me out so bad. And the color of her skin, idk if you can see it online but irl it had this greenish tint and it was disgusting but so so cool. It was a decent size, not HUGE, like I'd say as wide as my bed? Probably 3 feet by 3 feet? OH OH I looked it up - 86.4 x 76.2 cm.

Lol yes! It's weird how we sometimes simultaneously spot the same detail in a picture!

Yes, I see it! It's giving me chills, not because of the death aspect, but because it's his mother he painted like this. Ah, so it's just a little bit smaller than life size.

Uhm, I just noticed something totally different. Is LJ playing up again. I see moving spots on my icon where there shouldn't be ones. Do you see them too or is it my browser? Everything else looks fine, though... weird! Nevermind, looks normal again now.

Wow. Her eyes, her expression. No wonder you couldn't get this one off your mind...

This just reminded me of last year when I was visiting a church (or cathedral idek) in Brussels and there was this scuplture, a relief (?), of three women. The one on the left was looking down as if she was crying, the one on the right was looking up as if she was begging/praying. Now, the one in the middle, god, she was looking straight forward, looking at you with those cold eyes..I remember staying there fucking paralysed and freaking out because it's as if it was alive and was... judging me? But still I just couldn't move! I told my friends and they were like "Yeah, it gives me the creeps, let's just get out of here" but I couldn't, I just kept staring at it as if I was expecting her to say something. lol idk where did that come from, I promise you I'm not insane, or at least not that insane.

But, anyway, I love to go to art museums alone, not that I've done that many times but I do like it. Now I just got a flash of Kim Novak in Vertigo ♥

I know! It was so scary! Her eyes especially!!

OH my god that sounds AMAZING. what color was it? was it all one color, like made out of stone or marble or anything? or was it like, colored. that sounds so interesting, what a captivating piece/concept.

ahh! ♥

It was white, marble white and it looked soooo smooth. It was amazing because of the contrast of such a harsh and agressive piece and at the same time so idk, smooth and soft.. I tried to look it up for you yesterday but didn't find it :(
It was fascinating!

I totally have this image in my head of you full on flailing in an art museum. It's hysterical.

It's an intriguing piece of art, all right. Maybe she looks half way decomposed to symbolize she was dead long before she died.

I mean, she certainly LOOKS dead.

God I LOVE going to art museums. There's this one in Glasgow called the Kelvin Grove and just GUUUH. There's so many old pieces as well as modern ones and just askjdg. I always feel all sophisticated and ~smart~ whenever I go LOL. I need to go more often. And I also like going alone sometimes. Or like last time I was there, I went with my aunt and my sister, but I ditched them for an hour, just to look around by myself. Bliss.
