1 - I have to write a 10 page play for class. Any prompts? I would quite like to write about a drag queen. LOL I was sitting there in class, "HOW can I make this assignment interesting to myself? OH! I could write a part that I'd like Lisa to play. What hasn't she played yet? She's been a man, a sex fiend, a lesbian, what along those lines hasn't ( Read more... )

You could totally use Boys & Girls - "And apparently, judging from her outfit - Jan aspires to be a whore". Women's Appreciation, too, with the dress code thing.

You could maybe encorporate SatC too, since there's a lot of emphasis on dress. Aaand The X-Files could be interesting too, since Scully is certainly a woman successful in a mans world. Like, explore both sides maybe? Scully sorta HAD to dress conservatively to be taken seriously, but a lot of the time that didn't make a difference and people, I think, underestimated her a lot. AND SCRUBS, if you watched that, has some fucking awesome stuff when Elliot changes her look and becomes more high maintenance. I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS STUFF FOR HOURS, SERIOUSLY. I fucking loooove analysing the representation of women in the media. LOVE. IT.

Not sure how to expand on this, but you could write a scene where the a man transforms from one image (like a very professional, straight-lace guy during the day) to another image (drag queen) at night. I think that would be fun to explore - not sure how to do it though.

I'm writing this now finally and ILU. I have the left side of the stage set up as an office and then the right side set up as a NY club. He's walking across the stage, giving a monologue about color and dropping his clothes as he goes. LOL.

That's an interesting idea. The drag queen has potential. I'm kind of an admirer of the German travesty star Georg Preuße alias Mary. His/her biography is titled "Mary - my life in her shadow" And I guess there's a very intense conflict. Does a drag queen have two personalities? Which one is the "real one"? How does the other one suffer from this? How does the man feel if he only gets praise for his drag role while nobody knows him?!
Well, Mary's program is a mixture of songs, some banalities, but some really deep stuff, too. Songs about abusive relationships, humorous songs about the problems of getting older, a very hot song about the loveliness of masturbation, and there's always the question about who we really are. What is show and what is real...

And the last song of the show really gets to me like nothing else. She sings a German version of Frankie's I did it my way with a slightly altered text. She starts singing as a very beautiful lady in a shining dress, full makeup, high heels, jewelry ... the whole package. And while ( ... )

1) What would a drag queen struggle with?

Isn't that one of the most primitive and fundamental questions in life?

2) "Love the outfit. It says "I'm a professional, but I'm still a woman." Actually, it sort of yells the second part."

It's not really about clothing directly, but you could maybe squeeze in the "we all got there using our feminine wiles" quote from s1?

Not much help tonight, I'm afraid.

What about House's speech to Cam in the pilot? That's a good one.
