Thank you so much to Calenlass Greenleaf for betaing, and to everyone at GoI for critters and encouragement, particularly Súlriel, Alquawendë and Adaneth, and to Gwynnyd who is not afraid of ESLs!

I love this, it is beautifully evocative and also feels very Elven which many authors do not manage, only the good ones.

lol - thanks a lot lethe. It's from the middle of my story, but I hope it makes sense anyway.

This glimpse certainly makes me want to know more about this grandfather. I really like how you are exploring the differences in cultures between the elven "families". And also it is an interesting idea to have a silvan born and bred such as Haldir discover the faults in the stories he has been told.

I'm really glad you feel that way, hrymfaxe. I've still got a lot to learn about writing, but it seems that the 'message' comes across all right. :-)

Tolkien left small clues here and there that the Elves of the various kindreds weren't just 'one happy family'; and as the Silvans are originally of Teleri descent, I'd imagine that they would have quite a lot to say about the First Kinslaying (no wonder!) and be somewhat wary of the returned Noldor.

But of course once Haldir gets to know a Noldo, he's just like everybody else. (And of course, the Noldor among Imladhrim wardens-in-training are young, born in Middle-earth - the way I see it, not many Kinslayers are left by now.)

This is gorgeous too! "a lot to learn about writing"? Well, I would differ with that opinion after reading this. The sense of time, place, setting, and history is so strong. (I really do have to go back to sleep for a couple of hours!) Definitely more on this later...

I'm so glad you like it! :-)

As a matter of fact, I'm looking at this fic atm. There are a couple of things that may have to be tweaked now.

*looks at posting time* You must have stayed up incredibly late, Oshun! Were you on a 'high' from finishing the AIA fic?

I drank too much coffee. Then wrote author's notes. Then went to bed about 5:00 in the morning and couldn't sleep, then got up about 8:00 because I was starving and then went back to bed about 9 or 10! Ridiculous behavior. Now there is a wild and crazy thunder storm outside just past noon! Good thing I have nothing I must do today, except format and file this story.

How can you be coherent after a night like that! I remember there was a time when one would go party all night, get up after a couple of hours' sleep and carry on - and even enjoy it! But that was many, many years ago.

God, I'm getting old!
