Otherworld was a fully-virtual reality universe hidden within the cyberspace of a near-future Internet. The primary plotline is that Otherworld was built by a conglomerate of insanely rich and powerful people from around the world in an attempt to achieve immortality by uploading themselves to this virtual universe. If you want I can loan you the books - Tad Williams can be a "tad" wordy though, so fair warning.

Nope, haven't read them. I have read other Tad Williams and mostly enjoyed it, though (I agree with the wordy). I'd love to borrow them...
