Carpe Juglum is the one in which Praatchett parodies vampires, thus the title. I like Granny Weatherwax a lot- should I be alarmed that I identify with a 70 year old recluse who happens to be a witch?

I mean I've had a number of dogs who have been really emotive. Does that mean that my dog is a person, or that many people aren't?
I've always thought of my dog as a person. I've always thought of my roommate's cat as something to eat.

Seriously though,
The quite above is illustrative of the attitude that made it necessary for Rand to write Atlast Shrugged.
There are people (like myself) who live in a world of things. My dog is a furry faced thing that I like to go running with. My wife is a thing that means more to me than any other thing. My body is the thing that the thing I call myself lives in.
Each person is a set of attributes, some good, some bad. We make value judgements on people -- like the people that are full of good attributes, dislike the people who aren't.
And lots of people really hate us for this. We're the monsters.
