Butter or Margarine

I found this just yucky! I may never eat margarine again.

Pass the butter ~ ~ ~ ~ This is interesting.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so ( Read more... )

While there are some margarines that don't use the hydrogenated oils that produce the dreaded trans fats (Becel, I believe, is one), I agree with you whole-heartedly.

I keep butter in the house. I don't use a lot of it, but when I want "butter", I want real butter.

And a great big ol' yuck to spreadable Tupperware!

I don't care what you use it for real butter always tastes better to me, sure it is a lot more expensive tha margarine, but the taste and health benefits far out wiegh the cost. My Grandmother churned her own butter up 'til she died in '95 and it was the BEST.

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC.

Well, that certainly accounts for the taste :-P

I wouldn't use any margarine except that Mr. IB is lactose intolerant. No dairy sucks beyond the telling of it. I use any real butter when I can 'cause I'm not fond of processed foods. Healthwise, I'd rather have a little butter than a lot of margarine. And nothing beats the taste of real butter.

Here's an interesting tidbit for you: I used to work at a movie theatre back in the day. The popcorn "butter" has no butter in it at all. We weren't even allowed to call it butter so we wouldn't get sued :-P It's partially hydrogenated soybean oil with an anti-foaming agent. What's worse is that the nacho "cheese" has the exact same ingredient. Scary...

Well, I guess I won't be eating the popcorn and nachos at the theater anymore, which is a shame 'cause I loved the popcorn with lots of partially hydrogenated soybean oil with an anti-foaming agent.

Some theaters have gone back to real butter. Usually they'll post a sign about it, though. You can ask them what they use.

We use Nucoa for stick margarine, because it has 0 lactose. Most margarine has lactose hidden in there in the form of whey. I like baking with it because it doesn't burn.
