Why speeling maters

I try to get my grammar right when writing LARP materials, but mistakes always slip by. Sometimes they're my own; sometimes they're by less careful coauthors but then I don't notice them when I copyedit.

The highlight is that in the Vericon blurb for Seek/Find, we wrote, "As one of the world's top spies, there is no person that can elude you, no piece of data you cannot access, no item that you cannot find. Unless, of course, it’s your car keys, or that souvenir pen you like so much, or your wedding ring." Noam Elkies, who's HRSFA's faculty advisor, replied to the entire list noting the dangling modifier. I will never live down the shame :(.

As someone who currently works in online fraud prevention (meaning we're paid to be hyper-paranoid), the spelling error and spacing SCREAMS "RED FLAG!" to me. It certainly doesn't say "Trust us with your computer security" to me, either.
