Intercon con report, part 3; Department of Bad Ideas; not To Be Continued

Mar 05, 2014 11:55

There's not much to tell about the rest of Intercon. GMing High Rollers was interesting. I wish I had had more time to brush up on the game; sometimes I felt at a loss to answer questions. I tried to front-load my assistance to acousticshadow2, and it was a lucky thing, because I crashed hard at the end of the night, and had to leave right before wrap to fall ( Read more... )

Who do I talk to if I'm interested, anyway? Kim?

I'm sorry about your bad experience at TBC.

About HRSFA Cracks, it's just a wishlist at this stage; I haven't talked about it with Thomas and Wren (who have actually played), let alone talked to anyone else, let alone sent a feeler email. However, I really do think that it's a) an amazing game, and b) right up HRSFA's alley in terms of tone and structure.

Well, except that Genghis Khan hand picked his successor, a younger son. Now, the khuraldai after Ogedei died... that would be a good setting!

And please do join the Intercon O team in some fashion. Let me know if there's anything I can do to bribe..... erm, ease you into that.

Huh. Alex seemed to know his stuff, but I was under the impression, too, that even if Genghis Khan picked his successor (and/or participated in offing the eldest son) there was still some debate afterwards. I'll have to re-listen to that Hardcore History podcast.

I admit, our discussing "how to plot a larp" may have diverged into "aren't the Mongols AWESOME??" on many occasions.

Well, there's -always- debate, even when it's kind of a foregone conclusion.

And yes, sometimes they are awesome. And sometimes I just want to retreat back to my euroamerican-centric history roots. Let me know when you want to write the game about what happened when Alexander died and his empire was split up.

Can we maybe not use the word "awesome" for people who were basically barbarians who killed tens of millions of people and destroyed two very rich civilizations?

If you're interested in running Precon, I think you'd do a good job. Also, while I'm not running it this upcoming year, I'm happy to occupy a sort of trusted-lieutenant position for whoever does run it, answer questions, possibly contribute software development, generally be knowledgeable, help project-manage, that kind of thing.

I'll make sure that this offer gets communicated through Dave too.

Like you, it was all I could do not to jump at the Mongol game; similarly a Tim Powers game is in WANT NAO territory. :-)

Waiting a month is a good call -- see how you feel once this burst of excitement wears off. (Maybe also some time to continue recovering from burnout. :) Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to walk me through what being pre-con chair was like. Whether you realize it or not, you cleverly managed to make me realize that it wasn't actually in line with what my expectations of the role were. And making someone think that's their own idea is the best kind of persuasion :)
