Intercon Notorious - con report, part 1

Mar 03, 2014 18:37

Intercon N was bone-crushingly exhausting, but also emotionally energizing -- no surprise there. Regrettably, my stamina for staying up late and getting up early and being on my feet for multiple hours and wearing uncomfortable costumes and maintaining a high level of stress (both eu- and dis-) gets lower every year ( Read more... )

Ok, this is driving me bonkers because I've heard it/read it from so many people. I can't speak about some of it because I'm not yet privy to details and I really, really would like to avoid spoilers until after Festival of the LARPs. And some of it may have been my fault.

But more importantly, the super science was /not/ part of the LARP. A PC ad-libbed it and before either GM could figure out if/how to react, other players were reacting (and using abilities) and they chose not to interfere and do massive ret-con.

I'm finding people's descriptions that it was like "a Roman senate game where it turns out aliens are invading" to be really, really hard to swallow, but I will have to see for myself in about a month.

Fair enough. I didn't mean to imply that this was a "a Roman senate game where it turns out aliens are invading." That would not be a fair assessment at all.

All in all, I felt the fantastical elements (that Alison actually wrote!) were integrated relatively seamlessly. I just questioned whether or not they were as seamless for all players. I know some people did get to the end of the game and were surprised by certain things that happened.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply that you were implying it. It's almost word for word what two players said to me at Intercon. (One of the two ad-libbed the super-science.)

The game ending, which went delightfully sideways, was a complete surprise to me. It did lead to me character's incredible victory beyond expectation, though.

"If only there were some way we could get away from this all..."

"Actually, we can..." Cue happily ever after.

I did have a good time with our light flirtations, and you played the role quite well.

I enjoyed our flirtations as well! In Monday morning larping news, I suggest our characters got married while I continue to be tortured by visions of the Wild Hunt until I finally succumb.
