I wonder if McCain finally recognized the lynch mob potential of his followers and was horrified by it...or whether it was purely a political move. I do believe he loves America, or at least his version of it. And perhaps that was over the line for him.

Thanks for the catch! Yes, it was Bush 41, not Reagan, who claimed to believe in volunteers as "points of light," unlike the two individuals on the current Republican ticket, who apparently consider volunteers the lowest of the low.
