Be warned Personally I just hate Dora and I never watched a single episode. As far as the merchandise goes I am ok with Thomas and Cars but Sesame street drives me crazy - it is everywhere
I started showing Caillou to Max (much hated in this thread). I actually really like it for a kid who does not speak English but need to learn. They pronounce things very clearly (unlike in Thomas -- I hated the cartoon; it is so so dull). And the subjects are easy to relate to. He does seem a bit whiny but not too bad for my taste.
I show Kenan Thomas, babysitter shows him whatever is on Nogging/Sprout. He does not seem to care much. Thomas is boring, but i like how trains look :-)
We actually like Dora. She goes on fun adventures and usually introduces some new concepts into our play routine and vocabulary. We borrowed a Dora "treasure hunt" book that has a lot of nice details - Danny loves it.
As to all the merchandise - he is pretty indifferent to it at this point, so it doesn't bother me. I took him to Toys R Us on Friday, he loved seeing all the Thomas beds (blech, so ugly!), Dora chairs, and McQueen bedding, but he just looked and played with it, didn't ask to buy anything.
p.s. Oh before Danny was born, I swore I would not buy branded merchandise for my child, or take him to Disneyland.. well, we are going to Thomas & Friends musical on Saturday. So my standards have definitely been lowered :)
It is almoust impossible not to buy branded merchandise. It does not exist except for Melissa and Doug stuff. And we bought Thomas Railroad set. I think I have a thing for Thomas

I forget what does Kenan watch? Anything?
