LJ is working, but barely so. It's slow and I need to reload a couple of times to get an answer. I think LJ is the victim of its own success. Success that brought upon us first the robots, now the attacks. Why don't they attack insane journal? Because nobody uses it. I tried and it was very annoying. I ended up using blogger as a backup - doing the ( Read more... )

LJ is, essentially, a Russian-based platform since Six Apart sold LJ to SUP Fabrik a few years ago. They're a privately-owned media company based in Moscow. The DDoS attacks are most likely politically motivated and have to do with the upcoming elections in Russia, in 2012 ... so I'm not holding my breath that this is the last of it. LJ's admitted that one journal was targeted, but didn't say whose, but did say that it was an attempt to get LJ to suspend the journal in question, in order to shut the person up. Still, I'm not leaving LJ. It's stupid to leave LJ for something they didn't cause and are doing their best to fix, IMO.

By all evidence we are in the world to do nothing.

LOL! I like that. :)

I assumed it's easier to deal with one LJ you want to off than with the whole livejournal site. Hey, I think it's not that difficult to kill a political opponent if you are really motivated. Attacking the whole LJ seems an exaggeration.

Emil Cioran is really awesome in an intellectual Fight Club way... You'll find him fascinating if you dig for him. Sometimes his name is spelled Emile Cioran - his work is mostly written in French. He was considered the greatest French stylist (in literature). As you might have guessed, I am a total fangirl...

I admit there were moments when I was so frustrated with this crap, I would've gladly shot him myself. Grrr!

You'll find him fascinating if you dig for him.

I think I will, thanks for bringing him to my attention! :)

I was thinking that Russia a a place where political assassinations are quite ordinary. Killing a blog or a couple of blogs is much much easier. The idea is that a blog can easily regenerate itself on another support, so the attacks seem futile.

lol that quote is awesome XD I want it to be my motto for days like today.

I also don't plan to leave lj. It's annoying when it goes down (which as we all know wasn't their fault) but in the grand scheme of things, I've been here for years and there are very few times there are ever issues with it. And like you said, all my friends are here. I prefer lj to anything else. I don't even like facebook or anything else.

Emils Cioran was just awesome like this...

I also do facebook, but it's mostly for stupid games (hey, I play Farmville...) and pics. I use lots of self-censure there, since it's my own name...

I loved The Day After Tomorrow. I had high hopes for 2012 but it sucked soooo bad!! Even the special effects couldn't save it.

All we did today was watch tv, read the paper, and eat eat eat. It was great!!

2012 sucked big time, even if I did love the effects. Compared to the cartoony tornadoes from The Day After Tomorrow, there was a huge improvement. Too bad the screen play was so bad. I truly hated and despised all the characters, the little dog included. OK, the little dog annoyed me the least...

I loved The Day After Tomorrow.

I think that's a great movie to watch on lazy days, and it always manages to make me feel cool. I remember when it showed in the Cinema they deliberately put the air conditioning way down low as everyone froze along with the characters.

So I'm not leaving. I've also just made a payment for another year of paid account...

I'm not leaving either :( If LJ goes down the drain that will be the end of blogging for me

It's a cool and engaging movie. Unfortunately I didn't catch it on the theater, but it's awesome you also felt the cold while watching it!!!

If LJ goes down, I'll still have blogger, but it's not the same...
