tv - then and now

Aug 25, 2009 19:07

I've been meaning to make a post about the 23rd of August but I kept getting distracted. On the 23rd of August we used to celebrate the day the Romanians switched sides from the Axis to the Allies in the SWW. I don't want to comment the historical event, I just want to say that in my childhood (actually till I was 14) it used to be a great ( Read more... )

Very interesting post! I agree about TV making us all equal, or equally stupid. The quality of TV programmes is falling, and I just cannot understand how people can watch so much TV as they seem to do. I HATE reality shows and all those stupid entertainment programmes. In Italy they are all full of half naked women with big breasts shaking them and their barely covered backsides, all to attract audience because they do absolutely nothing else in the show and have nothing to do with the content. Many current TV series, all from the USA, leave me indifferent. They all seem the same to me, and I hate thinking that half the world is watching the same thing, there's got to be better programmes out there ( ... )

The movies are subtitled. Dubbing alters the whole thing. An actor's performance is incomplete without his/her actual voice. They use dubbing here for cartoons and children's movies. I think it's bad because kids really learned English (that's obviously the most used language) before. Also, hearing the dubbles' voices ruins it for me... Some voices were really funny, the new ones all suck. And suck the enjoyment out of the cartoon for me.

I am very upset about the part with the news too. I don't watch much tv, but I like to be informed and I am always tempted to watch the news. But it's dubious VIP-s, murders and traffic accidents, preferably with image of the victims' relatives screaming and crying and... politics, which are ALWAYS bad news. Speculations are attracting audiences more than actual facts, so this is what they feed us.

When I was living at an aunt and going to school in that town, they wanted to include me too into such ceremonies for such celebrations (don't remember exactly if it was 23rd of August or something else, it was summer anyway), but my aunt managed to get me not to go. She was a teacher and had connections ( ... )

I participated at a 23rd of August fest once. I remember us kids carrying some big hula hoop-like things, decorated with paper flowers. We were supposed to move them up and down, left and right, following the "choreography". It was stupid, we stayed for hours in the sun, rehearsing. I hated it. But I also remember that the ones who participated got new school books at the beginning of the next school year...

I do expect German television to be more decent than Romanian. Though I am sure there's loads of crap everywhere.

You have seen such huge changes in your lifetime. It is amazing to me to hear about your life and to get your perspective on communism.

I still love Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck!

To me it seems everybody here is in a hurry to forget the past. But this way they also forget the lessons of the past. The way everyday events tumble over, we don't have time to ponder I guess.

I grew up watching Bugs Bunny, but I didn't realize how many of the jokes I didn't get until I watched it as an adult. I don't like the manga or anime or whatever it is either. I just don't get it. Actually, I think most cartoons these days suck. Cartoons are supposed to be funny... Bugs, Tom & Jerry, etc. They're just not like that anymore.

And don't even get me started on reality shows. It seems to be like 90% of programming these days, and c'mon, it's not even reality.

OMG that's ridiculous! It's amazing how graphic people get with cartoons, hahaha. Do people actually get off on this stuff?

The pic kind of reminds me of those people who are into "pony play" - something else I don't get in the least. The first time I heard about it I was like "huh"??

I had to check and see what pony play means... sounds strange to me, but hey, whatever gets these people off... as long as everybody is happy, I guess I'm happy.

It was the but-plug/tail thing that stole this pic. And the open mouth think, typical to this kind of cartoon. When you watch the wide open mouths of the characters, you think that the only sound they're capable of making is something like "wheah".
