modern fatherhood

Two interesting commercials on tv - both with the same idea: teenage daughter sneaking boy in the parents' house. In each of the cases, the boyfriend (or maybe just the stranger she brought in for a one night stand) is lured out of his hiding place in the morning by the aroma of the coffee the girl's father made or the offer made by the same father ( Read more... )

tv, rant

McDonald's has a commercial like that? You gotta be kidding me!

Here in the U.S. people are way too uptight, and there's always some ridiculous group claiming that something is offensive. It bugs me to death. I love watching the programs that show funny/risque commercials from other countries. I always think "no way would they get away with that here!" But a teenage girl/naked guy/father? That's a bit much! Is this a Romanian commercial, or something shown throughout Europe, I wonder?

It seemed too much for me too. I like commercials that break barriers but this was kinda creepy. Father meets naked previously unknown boyfriend? Not funny. And if he accepts it just like this AND gives him coffee, he's a wuss.

Such commercials are so called "international", made by a big agency like Leo Burnett or some big name, and they make the add, and it is distributed in a number of countries. Of course, the add can vary, because they make it keeping in mind the specifics of the culture of the country they want to distribute it in. Such an add, for example, wouldn't be shown in an Islamic country, and such. But, unfortunately, these adds are made for a general group, they seem not to research thoroughly the cultural values and customs of each little country in the Eastern Europe, for example.

Phew, that was long :P

I'm sure my grand finale is exactly what they want! The agency would REALLY draw attention to the product they want to sell. As long as they think any publicity is good publicity...

Mmmm I don't know the one for McDonalds, but in the one for the coffee - Jacobs - the boy isn't nude, and he's not sneaked in by the girl, he is only the new boyfriend of the girl, and the father haven't met this new bf until that moment. Anyway, the commercial is idiotic.

In the MCD one the boy is hidden in the closet - semi-naked.

Probably they thought that appeals to the younger generation. It's still idiotic.

Totally idiotic. And unoriginal, since there we were already familiar with the coffee commercial. If you steal an idea, steal a good one!

I just don't even know where to start on this one. *Shakes head* It wouldn't make it to air in the US because we are very uptight about sex here and like to play ostrich about kids and sexuality. Which is highly stupid -- playing that if we don't acknowledge it, it's not happening. However, I don't know that it needs to be so out there and used as the jab of an advertising campaign.

I'm not uptight about sex but this scenario seems kinda too much for me. If they ended it with a joke, to diffuse tension, it would have been ok. But they didn't. They just acted like it's a nice, normal thing.
