"You're being ridiculous."
Timo raised his eyes from the floor, but remained silent as he watched David pace.
"This whole thing is stupid. First I get mauled by a dog in India, then I come home and my best friend locks me in a cage. Where the hell did you even get an iron cage?"
"I know people. I made some inquiries."
"You know people." David laughed mirthlessly. "You know people who have iron cages just laying around. You know, Timo, I'd say this was pretty kinky if I wasn't so PISSED OFF!" The last words were a full of frustration.
Timo flinched slightly, but otherwise didn't move. "It's for your protection as much as everyone else's, David. If you killed someone, you'd never forgive yourself."
David growled. "Timo, there are no such things as werewolves. They're myths. Just because I got attacked by a dog during a full moon does not mean I'm going to become a mythical creature. It was just a dog!"
"If it was just a dog, then why did you heal so fast?"
"The bites weren't as bad as they first looked," David insisted. "There was a lot of blood, so they thought it was really bad, but it wasn't. It was just a couple of bites."
"Bites that healed completely in three days," Timo said.
"So I heal fast."
"David," Timo said wearily, "You have never healed fast."
"Ok," David snapped, irritation obvious, "So they had some great herbal remedies that helped me. Maybe it was some mystic Indian thing."
"Or maybe you're going to turn into a wolf as soon as the sun sets."
"DAMN IT TIMO, I'M NOT A WEREWOLF. IT WAS JUST A FUCKING DOG!" The roar was almost deafening.
Timo pushed away from the wall, but kept a healthy distance between himself and the bars of the cage. "David, I know you think I'm crazy, but I'm telling you the truth. What bit you in India wasn't a dog."
"Let me out."
"No."
"Let me out!"
"No."
"OPEN THE FUCKING CAGE OR I'LL RIP OUT YOUR FUCKING THROAT!"
"You'll rip out my throat if I open the cage, David," Timo said. He glanced at his watch, then looked back at his best friend as David's ranting became less intelligible. "Do you know what just happened, David? The moon just rose."
David shoved violently away from the bars of the cage and stumbled back a few steps before dropping to the floor. Fur suddenly sprouted from the skin of his hands. His features stretched grotesquely as his body twisted and shuddered. Bones snapped and a single long scream echoed through the room ending in what was unmistakably a howl.
Timo sank to the floor and leaned back against the cold wall. "Yeah," he murmured softly as he prepared to stand vigil over his friend, "it was just a dog."
