Transformation is always the most interesting part of this fiber art stuff... I love how things mutate simply through what work I put into the item rather than any particular property of the item itself.

I did a dyeing and spinning thing just in the last week and I love, love, love the results... even as I'm kind of in the midst of them.

I used the Knitty Haiku pattern, but modified it severely to fit a baby rather than a 1-year-old AND to use my hand spun rather than a commercial yarn. I shortened the shoulder panels to just 3 inches, though I kept the 9" length to the sweater. I kept the sleeves to just 7 inches.

So the second storm wasn't as bad as the first and it's been sunny and cold since. 20's in the day, teens and single digits at night, but the sun here is so powerful that the blacktop just starts turning everything to slush when it's out ( Read more... )

I just got a huge box, last night, from the Sheep Studio's mill ends sales area. They sell roving, spinning bells, and grab bags of wool for 7.50 to 5.50 a pound. Which is pretty amazing even for medium weight wool. But I realized why the bells were so cheap when I grabbed a bunch and started putting it through my drum carder ( Read more... )

I'm kind of peering at Etsy and being fascinated. Especially with the stashes of hand spun I have at home, that it would be cool to find a home for. Hm. I have to admit that I spin much faster than I knit, and I have three or four bunches of hand spun laceweight wools from back when it was too hard to buy commercial lace weight yarns.
