Warm! Cool in the summer, too, as it'll be feeding our AC. Whew...

Yeah, even partial shade makes them rather inefficient. We were really lucky and have a south-east facing roof. The eastern exposure is actually useful in a way as here, in the summer, nearly every afternoon is filled with thunderstorm clouds. So better to take advantage of the sunrise...

One was that we had a whole mess of halogen lights outside in the backyard that were on a timer we hadn't known about and they were on for five hours every night, which added up to quite a lot ( ... )

Our short-term goal is making it through this winter in the new house - which seems, thankfully, to be pretty well insulated - and then we'll be investigating solar hot water and a more efficient boiler for our next energy-efficiency steps. (Oh, and replacing the drafty side door.)
