Unexpected Grace

I did something unexpected today, and actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. There's an African american Methodist Episcopalian Church, the first African American formed church in Seattle, near 14th and Madison. The AME church has roots in the Methodist church, which in turn came out of the Anglican tradition; so there is a family connection between AME and Episcopalians, but it's a relatively distant one. According to the AME site, they use the "Episcopal" mostly to refer to the fact that they're governed by bishops.

Culturally, as you saw, it's a very different experience from the typical Episcopal church.

There were a couple of AME students in my homiletics class, and believe me, they could light the room on fire when they wanted to :)
