I'm sorry you've had a rough week :( Rant away! And thanks for sharing your experiences, as well.
Breastfeeding can be tricky, which surprised me. I just thought that something so natural would be easy and intuitive. Not so. And so many different things can happen to jeopardize the breastfeeding relationship. I have friends who started formula in hospital, started formula after pumping for several months, and friends who pump exclusively. I, too, know a baby who needed formula supplements in order to gain weight. I know people who have been on herbs and meds for low supply. It's definitely not easy for some moms and babies.
I hate formula. I hate it because I had to use it and I didn't want to. I know...I sound like a toddler. In the end, I used it for the same reasons as you siapastar! You can get back to ebf! We did finally after 4 months. But it was lots of time on the couch, some tears, and alot of perseverance. Unfortunately, society feels that you should be one or the other. A formula feeder or a breastfeeder...and in literature and support, neither the two shall meet. I searched for hours on how to increase supply, increase milk transfer, keep a sleepy baby awake, how to try to get back to ebf. It's unfortunate that support is so inadequate for individuals that want to breastfeed 100% but don't end up achieving the goal because of lack of information and support from society, family, your doctor
( ... )
Glad you overcame your challenges to get back to your goal of ebf! It can be done! That's an important message, too: just because you begin formula for whatever reason, doesn't mean you must use it to weaning. And I agree with you that there needs to be more help and less guilt. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
