retinoids and acne ext_55561 January 11 2008, 00:49:05 UTC
Some years ago my ex-wife was starting an internship in a fancy hospital in Boston. She was eager to make the best impression. But then she got this sudden nasty bout of acne and she thought a topical retinod gel was a brilliant idea. What she did not realise was that retionoids work by accelerating the skin peeling, drying and re-growth. So for a while she ended up looking like shaggy skin-peeling zombie with acne

Look, she is the doctor, I am just a chemist - and the retinoid in question has a gorgeous adamantyl group in the molecule (one of very few drugs on the market). Also the flaky zombie appearance takes few days to develop....

(We separated and got divorced shortly after. I think she must have blamed me for the acne cream medication fiasco also - but the more decisive factor was definitely her mother coming to live with us...It did not help I called her mom Baba-Yaga during one of many arguments.)
