Oh poor Susan! I liked how she knew exactly what needed to be done, and didn't hesitate, but paid the price in the end.

And the scene with the mermaid was fantastic.

Thank you so much! Poor Susan indeed. She gave up so much for Narnia and look where it got her in the end.

So sorry it has taken me a week to read and respond. This is awesome! You have such a natural feel for the more formal language here, and it's really lyrical and ... royal. Fantastically done. I love how you have each of the four feeling "the most," but in different ways. Edmund is guilt, Peter responsibility, Lucy pure grief, and Susan this weight of what the changes to the country demand. She seems so practical, but no without deep emotion. The scene with the sea and the mermaid are mind blowing. So good. Scary, then sexy, then scary again. Geez, Susan/Mermaid/The Sea forever, right?? Also love how in that last scene, it's clear that she's caught up in both the sea and the mermaid, longing for them both in ways that are not entirely unpleasant but unbearable at the same time ( ... )

Thank you! *hugs*

Actually, I was thinking about "The Horse and His Boy" while I was writing this. Susan is so committed to playing her role that I don't think she always sees what she'll give up by doing so.

I really need to write more Narnia fic. There are so many things springing up in my brain.
