There were more blasts on the London tube just a short while ago. Those fucking terrorist sons of bitches.

Am addicted to action figures now. I can't help it. My Bilbo came in the mail yesterday and last night when I went out to Target to buy some camping supplies I bought little metal figures of Flash and Batman from the Justice League cartoon. ( Read more... )

terrorists, camping, perving, action figures, hp, family

I wish I had time to discuss it more in full, but I can say that sometimes in fandom I'm made to feel about 13 again when I'm "left out" of something or someone says something insulting (even unintentionally)...:-)

It's strange, but true. I know that I often revert back to my old adolescent stand by of 'stand back, lurk and don't say anything unless spoken to first' when in fandom, especially the more virulent parts of it. And there are so many ways in which fandom plays popularity games, too. What with the fic awards and the cliques and the wanks.

You know, sometimes I think there's a part of me (and possibly all of us) that's still stuck at 13 and doesn't quite understand how to deal with the bullies or the princesses.

You know, that Grint kid is cute, but he does nothing for me except make me feel like a stodgy old woman for wanting to strap him down and cut his hair already.

Radcliffe, though? Yeah. Straight. To. Pervy. Old. Woman. Hell.

RE: Your discussion point... Yes, we are all in some way or another trapped inside our adolescent selves and locked forever in a metaphorical high school cafeteria.

Must say that I think my favorite pic from Fangirl Central was of your LOOMING VERY SCARY/SEXY Batman action figure.

*buys you shelving*

See, that's exactly how I feel about that Radcliffe kid. It's good to know that we'll never fight over the same boys men.

Oh psychology. It's either depressing or entertaining and today I am opting for the entertainment side of things.

Awww, with enablers like you who needs advertising executives. Hee.

Discuss: If, like some have intimated, certain parts of fandom are rather like a high school cafeteria with their popularity games and dramas, then does that mean that all social interactions devolve into adolescent bullshit?

It does seem to have an effect that tables are being drawn, and there is the slash table and the PWP table and the H/C table etc. If someone DARES to go from the slash table to the non slash table and say their piece they will be killed and their remains hidden in the meat pie.

Humans certainly are strange beings. So many of us suffered at the hands of small-minded kids in school and yet we come into fandom and employ the same clique-ish, divisionary tactics that they did.

Thank goodness that fandom is also full of wonderful, open-minded, fun people like us. =D

How is the popcorn coming along?

Just perfect. It's magic popcorn, salty for some and sweet for others.

1) Am still awaiting Scully, but when she gets here, I think Bilbo and Batman should have her and Mulder over for tea.

2) Have fun camping!

3) Yay! *hands you Dirty Old Woman Membership Card*

4) Still reading HBP.

5) Is there a portion of the world that has advanced beyond the high school cafeteria? If so, please provide directions.

6) Do not resist your OCD urges! They are here to help you!

1) Absolutely. I'm sure they'd have a maaahvelous time. Bilbo would charm Scully with tea and scones and his mischevious scholarly mind and Mulder and Bruce would have so much to talk about, what with their shared childhood trauma and all.

2) All the stupid state campgrounds on the Great Lakes are booked up. We'll have to see what we can finagle. *annoyance*

3) I was bound to join the ranks one of these days. It was only a matter or time.

4) Enjoy the read.

5) I imagine even the Fangirl Commune would be influenced by the politicking of the high school cafeteria. It's all so depressing.

6) I spent yesterday afternoon back-tagging. The OCD has won again. *sigh*

I swear to you, Rupert Grint is a red-haired version of my little brother. It's scary.

Am having slight existential crisis. STOP It's somehow not right to be perving on someone who looks just like a friend's little brother. STOP Thank goodness said little brother is not a redhead or else world might possibly be over. STOP Must resolve this issue shortly. STOP
