As I'm sure most of you already know, the trailer for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has appeared onlineI can't wait to see this. The trailer looks good and I am hopeful. I'm not a book purist by any stretch of the imagination. I'm never a book purist, just so long as the movie tells a good story and tells it skillfully I'm one happy li'l ( Read more... )

Ooh, Narniathon! Count me in! Though I must request that we read them in the proper order. The Magician's Nephew is sixth, not first. [/purist rant, as I'm actually with you on purism in adaptations, but I am a stickler for this one; drives me crazy that the publishers decided, what kids can't deal with the slightest bit of non-linearity in their reading? Whatever. Really this time: /purist rant.]

P.S. It was Mr. Tumnus, all shirtless and with his lovely little scarf. Have you seen the oodles of high-quality screen captures? If I retrace my steps, I think I can find the link again.

And, yep, Lucy really threw me, but they're right. She's, what, seven maybe?

You are absolutely right! Magician's Nephew is sixth, dagnabit! The publisher's must have thought they were being awfully clever when they put the books in chronoloical order but, in actuality they made it harder for kids to get into the books. LWW is the perfect starting point from which to fall in love with Narnia and MN, as delightful as it is, simply doesn't read as well on that level.

The Narniathon is on! Well, not on as in we're starting right now, more on as in it will happen in ... October? I should figure that out.

Ooooo, pretty screencaps. Will go plunder for icons.

slight spoilers, but seriously, is there anyone reading this who hasn't read the stories? hiyacynth May 10 2005, 15:52:47 UTC
What burns me is that when they put out the new editions (moneygrab, anyone?) they didn't also offer new covers with the old numbers. I guarantee you what they're going to do next is reissue them AGAIN with new-new covers and original sequencing. Ah well.

October sounds about right. They're quite short, really.

And I totally agree with you about LWW being the perfect gateway into the world. Part of what I love about the original sequence is that you get to go back to places you miss (ah, the Golden Age of Narnia!!) and/or discover what roles people have/had (Diggory, as a prime example) in later/earlier events. What a thrill it was to realize that Professor Kirke was among Narnia's first visitors. And how much more do you love the old Wardrobe when you learn its history?

I'm actually looking forward to some of the films coming out this year. There's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, the fourth Harry Potter, and the Narnia film. I think the new trailer looks incredible; this film is going to rock. Did you know that WETA did the special effects?

And I join you in needed Narnia icons.

See, I'm just not all that psyched about those. They sound like fun and I'll probably see them but they just don't get me all worked up. *sigh* I'm just a big ol' picky fandom drama queen. I'm not even all that excited about the Pirates of the Carribbean sequels.

I love WETA. New Zealand needs to be thanked a few more hundred times at the Oscars.
