Charming Reveille VII in her maroon/white Texas A&M coat
Reveille is the official mascot of Texas A&M University. The current Reveille VII is an American pure breed (rough) collie. Reveille was designated the rank of a Cadet General by the US Army to thank Texas A&M University for their assistance during World War II. Since then, all incoming successors assume the rank of a Cadet General (5 Diamonds), the highest ranking member in Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. For this reason, the cadets address her as Miss Reveille, ma'am.
Reveille is an integral part of the Aggie Family. She has her own Texas A&M Student Identification Card. She is the only animal permitted to enter any campus building. She attends classes and lives in a home-like environment where she is loved and nurtured. By tradition, if she barks in lectures, that session is cancelled. During her tenure, she attends Texas A&M sporting events, boosts the morale of our team and keeps the Aggie Spirit burning. Her appearance means so much in a hard fought match.
Upon her death, an official funeral (attracting several thousands of mourners) will be held at the Kyle Field. She is then buried in a small cemetery with the past Reveilles, facing the Kyle Field. Her skull faces the Kyle Field so that she can look at the scoreboard and watch our Aggies outscore their opponents.
Reveille VII will formally retire upon the conclusion of the Spring 2008 semester. Meanwhile, the University held a 16-member committee to begin a extensive nationwide search to shortlist potential candidates to assume her position.
