New seed catalog....the first sign of spring. I've about given up on seeds, the poor soil quality of my yard tends to kill off transplants and soil amendments grow pricey. (think transporting an entire plot of good soil to my scruffy yard). I miss my veggie garden and have to make-do with container gardening. But I still like to see the seed catalog and dream about what flowers I would like to have.
I filled out the form but am still trying to get over the $6.95 shipping cost for seven envelopes of seeds. This is usually where I get over the shiny catalog and go to the hardware store instead. Although I really want those abutilon things... gah, I go through this every year

Annuals are great. I like Pansy for early color and impatients are always a tried and true friend. They have so many cool varieties now. I like the ones with the double blooms. Petunias are a great container plant if you can stand getting sticky when you deadhead the plants. they have a lot of great colors. I think I am going to try a container of herbs this year.
In our yard we have a lot of different Daisies. they have done well in the past but I think I need to reseed this year. A lot of the plants have died back and apparently the hungry birds are eating all the seeds so the plants are not reseeding themselves. We also do well with daylillies and hostas. We gave up on trying to keep grass growing and are propagating moss to cover the area. But try keeping moss out of the areas where you don't want it...
