Lavender isn't ashamed to be leading a boy--man?--alien?--back to her place at all. It's full of tapestries and fabric, a designing table, and a modest dresser with a sink basin and a chopping board. Humans never fail to amaze J. He thought women were supposed to tidy. But the command gets him most of all. He looks at her strangely. "My shoes?"

And he would most certainly protest to being called a boy.

"'Women'?" Lavender asks, walking over to her designing table and pulling out a kit box. "I am but a girl, Mister J. Just stuck in a grown-up body." It's true. She still enjoys playing with rabbits and picking daisies. She still enjoys running her fingers through long grass as she takes walks. She still enjoys walking barefoot, even.
