Okay so I was talking to my friends about Stephanie Meyer's choice of titles. And I wanted to see what other people thought about the titles, "Twilight", "New Moon", "Eclipse", "Breaking Dawn" and possiblity of "Midnight Sun"

My friend and I had a wide range of ideas of what each could mean. So far we have concluded the following, but still ( Read more... )

this is fantastic!
i always though of the titles as a cycle of the book series...
twilight; which is in the evening.
new moon & eclipse; which it what happens in between evening and morning.
and breaking dawn.. which is basically sunrise..

but you have seriously opened my eyes!!!
good thinking!
it makes perfect sense!
LOVE IT!

i never thought of the titles this way, that they could mean something apart from what they mean in the books.. i mean, i thought the titles came from significant conversations inside the books, you see Twilight is mentioned i thin by Edward in the epilogue of that book, New Moon is part of what Edward says to Bella when they are back from Italy when he explains to her what she means to him, and Eclipse is what Jacob tells Bella in his house when he's recovering: "i can't fight with an Eclipse" (when Bella says he is the Sun)

your theory is great too though, the only problem i have with it is that for me Jacob is the Sun and Edward the moon (warm/cold)

yeah thats a part i forgot to put it...
my friend and i debated about it for a while
how bella saw jacob as the warmth and mentioned him consisently throughout as his sun and then there was edward and he was just so cold like the moon. its kind of weird in my theories how they could be switched.

i must ponder more about this... hmmm... lol :)

Wow you explained that really well. But SM explains New Moon a little differently on her website:

"Q. What does the title refer to? Is it a werewolf reference?

A. Nope. The term "new moon" refers to the phase of the moon opposite a full moon. It is when the sun is on the opposite side of the moon from us and thus the bright side of the moon is not visible from earth. This is the darkest kind of night. New Moon is the darkest period of Bella's life."

Just thought I'd throw that in here =)

huh - thanks
ive skimmed SM's interviews and blogs and i think i might of saw it like that too but i dunno -
my friend and i were on a roll with our theories and such

but as she is the author, she is most definitely correct.

although, i must say that it kind of backs up my theory...how the new moon was the darkest part of her life because it is absence of the sun. and maybe even the moon was part of this darkness - jacob was there constantly but maybe it wsa because of him, as he was not edward, that helped it be darker.
i dunno tho, as part of my anti-jacob maybe coming out on this.
