Surprising Reactions (1/2)

Set later that night after Damon returns Elena’s necklace. Elena’s POV

Sleep is eluding me, but that should come as no surprise given the events of the last few days. My mind returns to the Masquerade Ball at the Lockwood’s, trying to make sense of what went on there.

Telling Stefan that I needed to feel safe had been difficult but honest. I wasn’t ready to jump back into being his girlfriend at that point.

What did come as a surprise was my reaction to Bonnie’s note. The knowledge that both Salvatore brothers were on their way boosted my mental strength considerably and was a big factor in getting me through that difficult situation in tact

The sight of him by my window quickly brought me back to the present. “Geez, Damon! You scared me half to death.” I exclaimed.

“Sorry, I guess you’ve had more than your share of that recently, huh?” he replied, searching my face for any trace of residual pain or upset.

“No more than usual” I said, trying to school my features into an expression of relative peacefulness (so as not to show him how glad I am that he’s here).

“What are you doing here? You don’t need to check up on me, you know. I am capable of making it through one night on my own.” I continued, hoping that my change in tone would detract him a little

I really liked this look into Elena's mind... it's kind of glaring having her realize how much she depends on Damon in the aftermath of his confession. Very nice juxtaposition. You have a very clean style which I can definitely appreciate.

I hope you write more! Don't doubt yourself, this was lovely.

Oy, these poor kids. I like the idea that Elena has always understood Damon, even more than she's probably admitted to herself, but now there's no holding back, in anyway. Gah. September, why are you so far away?
