SQUEEEE !!!!!

Such is the awesomeness of The Vampire Diaries and a certain Ian Somerhalder!!! Both reduced me to that one-word review of this episode.  How is it that Ian just gets more breath-taking, completely irresistable, and utterly god-like every time I see him on my screen?????  Every single episode should feature him wet, naked, insanely ( Read more... )

Ugh - Stefan & Elena's mouthed "I love you" during the girls group hug ruined it for me. It was a girlfriend bonding moment, not a SE one!!

You're the only one I've seen mention this as well. It really was just NOT the right moment, in my opinion. I echo your ugh.

But overall, squee!!

It's pretty awesome when there is really only one, little ugh in the entire episode.

I noticed something more when re-watching this eppy.

It's in the Damon/Elena scene in the washroom at the grill. Just after Damon tells her she needs to stop assuming he'll play the good guy, just because it's HER who's asking, she drops her eyes for a second and then lets her breath out slowly, looking somewhat guilty. I'm thinking she felt bad for trying to manipulate him into being the better guy. We've only seen her use this tactic once before in Bad Moon Rising, but she was (rightfully) in vengeful mode for the Jer neck-snapping incident at that time.

I'm not sure what to think of E resorting to that again. It seems a little lacking on her part ... hmmmm

I saw that as totally different though. I don't think she deliberately was trying to manipulate him (unlike in BMR). I think it honestly just comes naturally with him because she does know that generally if she asks and expects it of him, he will do it. Therefore, of course, she's going to ask him if it's going to help any given situation. He just called her on doing that something that I don't believe she's really aware that she's doing. It just comes naturally to her now. She subconsciously knows that she has Damon wrapped around her finger, that he loves her and will do anything for her, but she can't consciously go there. If she does, well, then they have to deal with that whole can of worms, and we know from "Rose" -- "Don't go there." -- that she is so not ready to deal.

I like your take on it better. It makes more sense that she's in the habit now of getting Damon to see things from her perspective, as it's worked so many times before.

I think Damon also called her on it because he's working so hard at getting a handle on his feelings for her, that he was actually asking for her help by identifying that particular thing that she does in the hopes that she might stop (and give him a brief pause in his inner war).

Agreed that Elena is still so, very deep in denial as she has been all of this season. I wonder what will it take to get her to question what's really going on inside her??? Will she ever be ready to go there???
