I've never heard it before, but I don't read romance novels. I mainly speak UK English but have lived in Canada too.

Thanks for replying. I think I read it some time ago in a questionable book and heard it a few times. It was a surprise not to find it online. The search is on! :D

Never heard of it. American English, Alaskan, PNW, upper midwest, SW (Arizona), and NE (NYC) dialects I either speak or am familiar with.

Okay, thanks for commenting - the pool of states grows smaller! I've traveled to Europe and a great deal of the US and spent most of my life in northern CA.

It was likely in a book lost in various moves or redecorations - as is common with the subject, certain phrases linger in the mind *coughshudderingtocompletioncough* Thanks for commenting.
