Question about African Languages

I've been looking everywhere for something that might fit, but haven't found anything that works. In my story I have this race that stays alive by absorving other people's living energy. The race was created somewhere in Africa, the details of where or when aren't important, I can change that easily to fit the language I use, but I need a name for them, in any African language, but as old as possible. I found a few words in Swahili, but I'm not sure the language is actually old enough, and then someone suggested perhaps Egyptian would fit better. The name I need should mean something like, master/ruler/lord of souls/spirit/essence, breather could work instead of master, too, because they sort of breath the energy in, I just need something old, and that won't be overly difficult to write/pronnounce, since it will be mentioned throughout the story.
