The OP didn't ask if it was true.

No one has really answered the -linguistic- questions.

I certainly believe what the terms may mean, but I'm curious more whether they're in use anymore.

The pronunciation question was explicitly an added bonus.

No one here would think of them as a lord or lady.
Though as to whether those words are in use?
We have a House of Lords.
It's full of... Lords and Ladies.
Yes, we use them regularly.

Not sure of Laird, I think that was the Scottish name for Lord, but I think they just use Lord nowadays.

There's nothing to stop anybody in Britain changing their name to Lord Plonk or the Great Panjandrum, except that it will make them look rather silly; so people who purchase lordships of the manor and the like are just wasting their money. Only genuine inherited titles or life peerages are taken seriously by anyone else.
