[ Message in neat handwriting appears! ]

Good morning, Edensphere!

I am a new [ Momentary pause here, as she suddenly feels that string of common words is supposed to mean something else. She can't recall, so she continues. ] hatchling, welcomed earlier today by my kind greeter. My name, or to be exact the name I feel affined to, is Stellaris ( Read more... )

Stardust?

[Even as he finishes the question mark, Rogue knows she wouldn't remember. He strikes it out, but the word's still legible with effort.]

[He steadies himself.]

Were you decanted with anyone? Any [pause] siblings?

Welcome, Stellaris. I'm Rogue L, and that's normal here. Most people have no idea what they did before.

It's hard to even see stars here, unfortunately.

[ Um, did she do this journal writing wrongly? ]

Yes, there was stardust in my dream. Is it something common to see?

And are we supposed to strike out after writing?

[ She already started writing before he finished. ]

There were stars in mine, but I know there are people here who are completely unfamiliar with space.

Sorry. Your writing's a lot like that of a friend of mine, but [pause] I was mistaken.

Anyone with one of these journals can see anything you write, so people strike things out if they make a mistake, or if they write something they don't want to give everyone a permanent record of.

My name is Paladin, and I'm pleased to meet you, Stellaris.

Guesswork astronomy?

Hello, Paladin! A pleasure to meet you too.

Oh, pardon me, I wasn't entirely serious about that. There are celestial objects in my dream, and I seem to be able to name some of them. A thought passed me I might remember more if I observe the skies here... but I was told it is a bit difficult.

Yes, the glass dome.

It's sad, I--well, I don't have the memories, but I think I miss the night sky proper.

Does Edensphere not have a planetarium, at least?

[The handwriting looks a familiar, as well as the polite demeanor that comes with it. Still, it takes squinting at Rogue's 'outburst' before things really click with Gene. There seem to be a couple of returners with this batch of newbies. Still, he figures she's occupied settling in, so he won't jump into the 'hey, you were here before' bit just yet.]

So you're a fan of stars, huh?

[He's noticed it seems to be a running theme.]

Oh, I don't know about being a fan, but indeed they are beautiful.

True enough. Just thought it might be a vested interest, if you were able to identify specific things.

The name's Gene-1, buy the way. I see you've found the canteen, if you've managed to cook a bit. Are you finding your way arout everything else alright?

Isn't it a little bit peculiar, though? I was able to recognize stars, Earth and nebulae, but my name...

Hello, Gene-1. [ Stares at that name for a while... It's like something vaguely familiar, but what? ] I haven't gone beyond the arrival hall and this temporary housing, but I'm planning to go out a bit today. I understand I need to get a job, but I'm not sure what occupations are available in Edensphere.

May I know what you do?

Welcome, Stellaris!

It is good to want to assist! There are a lot of job options! But I do not think anything with the stars is available.

Thank you! Everyone responding has been nice, I'm glad.

I suppose I will just make the stars a hobby, if I ever get the chance to see them again. Perhaps making cinnamon toast and omelettes would give me chance of getting hired?

You are welcome! Oh, and I am Youth!

There are eateries in the marketplace! I am sure they would like more chefs! And some people cannot cook, so they are helpful for those!

Maybe we should hire a chef, spare ourselves from more of your "cooking."

Hi, Kizuna, nice to meet you. Yes, I was in space, among celestial objects.

Did you see a dragon-shaped constellation?

Do you wish to see the dragon again? [Do dragons exist? But then, griffin was another peculiar animal name, yet Rogue wrote of it as a matter of fact.]

I'm not sure of its existence at this point, but if I regained more of my knowledge, I may be able to tell.
