When it comes to trends in manga/anime, I think I almost actively avoid popular series. It's my kind of hipsterism, I guess - if everyone's watching a show, I won't go just watch it just because of that. Even when I do (like Eden of the East), I tend to drop it halfway. That means that by the time I finally decide to watch something, I'm getting

How can you say you avoid popular series? You're the only person I know who follows Bleach, Naruto, Reborn, and Gintama. And didn't you watch Gurenn Lagann, too? And don't forget Geass.

All you're missing is a depressing visual novel by Key. I recommend the new Kanon, though I suppose the first season of Clannad is good, too. ;)

Ok, maybe I should clarify - I watch the popular stuff, but not when everyone else is. :) I mean, the manga I'm omgsquee over right now is Kenshin and that's OLD. :P

Did not watch Gurren Lagann and still proud of it. Too many people on NarutoFan were watching that, which I took as a bad sign.

I've pretty much dropped Naruto by now (Shippuuden killed it for me). Gintama I'm way behind on, Bleach I'm not watching because it's in fillers, and I had trouble finding reliable subs for Reborn! so that's kind of in the dumps right now. So considering that I'm only watching Vampire Knight (late) and most happy about reading Kenshin and Until Death Do Us Part right now, I guess I'm pretty late in the game/obscure. :)
