Okay, SO. Sorry it took me a while to get back to this but hey, it's still before my birthday, so I'm not doing too badly. ;)

I will try to find something more intelligent and original to say besides "um, yeah, what everyone else said" but seriously, bb, everyone's right - this is a beautiful, beautiful piece of work, and you are indeed a gift to the Kirk/McCoy fandom. And you wrote this FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *dances*

-ahem- Okay, sorry, moment of totally inappropriate glee over.

I love the premise of Bones's secret smile winds throughout the whole thing, and how brilliant, genius Jim can be so BLIND about some things and can't figure it out. You can just hear him thinking, why would anyone have a special smile just for me? *cuddles him* (SO IC!)

Section 3 - oh, man, what a beautiful and perfect little moment, and so much something that would have happened in canon. I adore that Bones uses the alarm to wake up Jim, thinking that the one thing that would get Jim's attention is danger to the ship, when of course, it's actually danger to Bones that makes Jim respond. It makes my heart go pitty-pat.

Section 4 - I can't even really come up with anything coherent to say, because the whole thing is just utter love and utter devastation and it makes me cry. Jim still convinced that he's not worthy of Bones' love, but willing to die without question for his ideals anyway. Oh my god. And Bones' declaration of love - like someone else said, it's so perfectly him and one of the all time most romantic declarations of love. OH, BONES. Thank god the story didn't end with this segment or I'd have been a sobbing wreck for DAYS

You finished it! And it was so worth it! *flails* It's so lovely. Warm and squishy and I just want to pet it, but especially this line:

“You’re still that damn kid,” Bones says, tucking the photo into place on the shelf and wiping a spot from the glass. He turns to look at Jim, who knows that whatever Bones is seeing, it’s not wrinkles.

Where I totally think of Carl and Ellie in Up and my d'awwww meter goes off the charts.

I am suddenly enamored of the idea of this fic as a small, fuzzy creature that requires pets. I see it as very tribble-like. FICS ARE TRIBBLES IN MY MIND FOREVER NOW.

Oh! This was beautiful...just gorgeous.

I love how it starts with them in the Academy and spans through their lives together. The ending was just the most perfect thing ever, with Jim's reflection over their life together, and how he had tried to imagine Bones when he was older!
