It was 3 months last year that I went without a car and here I am again, carless for 2 1/2 months now. Virginia doesn't even come close to the world class transit I've experienced in most of these cities. (Let's take Miami out of the world-class category.) But I love living without a car! it's funny that you post this now, as i'm dealing with the fact that my car is slowly limping along to it's (timely) death. i'm looking at relying on zipcar, avis and my bike/feet through the winter, which could get interesting (providence's bus system is pretty awful, although i won't rule out using it in desperation. i can walk to work, though!)

part of me is sad at the prospect of losing the ability to walk out my back door, hop in my car and go, but another part of me is giddy at the idea of not have to pay car insurance, gas prices, registration, inspection, car repairs, etc. and not having to worry about the fact that i have an old, crappy car that needs lost of work!

hooray for car-free living!

Dude. MARTA sucks unless you live in the right places. Highly ineffective compared to how it could be.
