For those who are interested in these kinds of things, there's a new pope, Joseph "Benedict XVI" Ratzinger. Apparently he's really conservative. On one hand, this makes my complaints about the Roman Catholic Church's complete failure to emerge from the 10th century all the more relevant. Yeah, I really felt for you this afternoon. I know the Cardinals were picked by the Pope to toe the party line back in the day, but I wish they'd at least tried for someone who might address the Church's lost footing in South America and speak to more of the non-European church.

I'd just like someone who would actually be christian and not condemn people for being different. Hi, am I the only one who noticed that Jesus' message seemed to be able acceptance? Oy.

My mom and I both feel that it's a bad sign that he named himself "Benedict XVI." What a boring, stuffy name. I mean, if you have the chance to name yourself, wouldn't you want to name yourself something good? Also, the sixteenth? Obviously boring and stuffy. Completely unoriginal.

Yeah, and the whole 'the Church shouldn't worry about poor people or starvation' bugs a little too.

Mnie's prolly irrelevant but when I'd heard that he caled himself Benedict the frist persona that sprang to my mind was Benedict Arnold. I have no rational explanation for it.
