I found this really interesting. What a wonderfully creepy way to answer the Stockholm Syndrome prompt. Because your John is a victim of kidnapping and he will never be free. What a great and horrible twist, that he only realizes the extent of his captivity when he tries to mix with normal people and finds he can't. And so of course the S.S. kicks in and he turns to the manipulative creature who abducted him. I found the story particularly (satisfyingly) disturbing because it really illustrates John's internal conflict when he is forced to make the most pragmatic choice that goes against almost everything he believes in (free will, self determination) so that he can to deal with the situation. And it's all the more painful for him because he enjoys himself when he gives in. It's a nasty AU world you've created, but you did give hope that, even there, someone could find peace and happiness of a sort. Thanks for writing this.

Well that's why the end is really so poisonous, I think- because what little happiness John has, he got only because he gave up everything and let himself be broken. He's already starting to diverge from the person he would have been if Sherlock hadn't manipulated him.

Just a thought. I found Lestrade to be the most enigmatic character of the story, a thrall working as a police inspector with some level of autonomy and a complex view of his world. If you ever write a sequel to this, I would be interested in one with him at the center. Unless you can think of some reason (plot device) for vampire Sherlock to change his thinking, I think that he and broken John are, at this point, dead ends.

No, I agree they're dead ends; this au actually started with the the first sex scene between Sherlock and John, and it became the story of how John was broken. That's all I really had to say in this AU.

That's an interesting thought about Lestrade though- I'll have to consider it.
