There are always at least a few in every family, aren't they? For every amazing relative like my mother in law, who grew up in the same conservative and rural town as I did, and is now one of the most loving, accepting (not tolerant, fuck tolerant, but ACCEPTING of everyone as just exactly who they are) person that I know, there's one like her ( Read more... )

It didn't happen. If anything, I'm more pro-choice and more supportive of people who are childfree than ever. me too. No one should ever have to have a child they can't ever love, and no child deserves to have that in a parent.

And I ignore the "what about adoption" argument hi-jack. Adoption is not for everyone either. And by 'everyone' I mean 'every woman'. Having an abortion isn't on my bucket list for sure, but having to adopt away a child away would be devastating

I think what bothers me most about the pro-life movement is that it is invariably tied in with the anti-contraceptive anti-sex ed movements. It ends up setting up this awful situation where women face unintended consequences of having sex and then punishes them for it. And that they're usually using their religious dogma to make laws to enforce control on all women, regardless of those women's personal beliefs. It's full of so much fail.

I don't know if you saw/read this article by Molly Crabapple regarding her abortion, and why she thinks it's very necessary to talk about it and that women should have the choice. http://www.vice.com/read/about-my-abortion

I think you show great restraint, Jay, I am very impressed. I don't know if you read about a recent case in Ireland where a woman begun miscarrying and because of the laws about abortion, she died because the hospital wasn't able to intervene - read here for more details. The state being able to rule what happens to a woman's body leaves me feeling very uncomfortable!
