[LJ2ME] Music to code by

Apr 19, 2006 16:09

As I coded coursework for uni last night, I found myself wondering: what do other people listen to when coding?

I know a lot of you reading this code, and more still have had to do so at one time or another.

Personally, it's usually enigma, or the traditional sound of hacking, pink floyd :p

But what do you lot find that works?

coding, music, code

The Flaming Lips make a good accompaniment. Or The Pillows, oddly enough.

Not so much a coder, but when I do the nearest equivalent it can go one of two ways.

Either it goes calm/quiet, in which case it's loreena McKennity folkey stuff or some Joni, or some Ozric Tentacles from the electronic side, or it goes breakneck bouncy punk / 80s new wave electronica.

I've finished some great project designs to theSTART's first album :).

I find I can't concentrate enough to code if there is music on, especially music that I particularly like or dislike. Because I am quite a musical person and did A-Level music etc, if there is music on, I seem to listen to it deeply and start analysing it without even trying, and therefore my brain can't code.

Because the job I have isn't to brain taxing, I can tolerate having music on, even though I don't really have a choice in our office. I therefore find myself to dancing in my chair to whatever is on Radio 1. I don't have much choice in the radio station choice either though, but I bounce more in my chair when the Kaiser Chiefs are on.

When I'm doing websites (which isn't strictly coding, I know), I actually like to bung my music player on random. I think it's because it means that there's something unpredictable going on while I do monotonous stuff.
