How to make your own damn textures 3 - Tutorial

In order to make a good texture sometimes you've got to start out with a simple texture. I'm going to show you how to make the simplest texture of all using just Photoshop patterns and a single effect.

First, fill with your base color.

Use your paint bucket and fill the next layer with this pattern located under Texture Fill.

(click on that little sideways arrow to open up the menu)



Set layer to Linear Burn at 10%.

Then, fill with this pattern.

Set to Soft Light at 30%

Following suit, Fill with this pattern and set to Soft Light at 100%

Fill with this next pattern and set to Soft Light at 20%.

Fill with this final pattern and set to Soft Light at 30%

Next Edit>Copy Merged> then paste the new layer to the very edge.
Set to Screen.
Filter>Stylize>Wind (Wind from the right...or left depending on which side you put this layer). Do so twice.

Create a new layer then with a 1px brush make some scratches and set to Screen.
