Thanks! I still have an oral exam to go, but the writtens have occupied the major part of my preparation for the last ten months, so I'm doubly glad to have them out of the way.

The next rant is slated to be on turning idealistic characters gray

I totally read that as "turning idealistic characters gay," and wondered whether that would be a good or bad thing. Then I re-read the sentence and discovered the conflict was a non-issue.

I second that, I want to read that rant! I had my hopes up for a moment.

Actually, a rant about fictional homosexuality--idealistic or not--could be interesting. It's not so common in "mainstream" fantasy, but I've read so many bad original slash stories (and fanfiction AUs) where the culture that permits homosexuality is completely sexually liberated. All of their ideas about sex are based on the author's own idea of what a sexual utopia would be like, or something.

Wait, I think maybe she's already ranted about something similar...

That said, thankyouthankyouthankyou for this rant. My bunnies took Goodkind's Evil Monotheistic Women-abusing Empire of Doom as a thrown gauntlet, and these are great things to keep in mind while trying to write from the PoV of hordeling. After all, hired killer goons are people too. They aren't necessarily nice people, though.
