Fabulous advice as always. I don't comment anywhere near as often as I should - partially because it seems others have already said what's on my mind, and partially because by the time I reach the end of your rants, I'm usually extremely distracted mentally dissecting my own work and looking for how I can learn from the rant and make my stories better.

But I have variations of the 'just an image' problem, and I've pulled at them in similar ways to what you suggested here, and it does work. It's also good for writing exercises - if you need to write something and you have nothing - go surf around DeviantArt or Elfwood or pick up a book of random artwork somewhere and close your eyes, pick something, and write. These suggestions would work well with that too.

Images are neat. I recently ran across an idea in an old notebook. All it was was-- let's see if I can remember it-- "A city on a river named Chronos, where ships can sail through time."

I kinda blinked at it, and got this beautiful imave of the cityand ships and the river itself; and now I think I'll try to drabble the image out.

Your rants are REALLY inspirational. *Drabbles away*

Ooh, thath's wonderful! It is what often happen to me - the image appears (occasionally actually in a dream) and starts nagging.

Thank you for the rant!

I tend to get 1) kinesthetic "images" from inside a character and/or 2) a line of dialog.
