Today xolola and I went to Target for school supplies and Claire's for random stuff. Apparently, Claire's (a chain aimed at preteen/young teen girls) carries various body jewelry for piercings other than ear piercings, and it got xolola and I talking about what piercings we'd like to get. So I'm still thinking about it, and I know a few of you on the f-list ( Read more... )

There's a very good chance your ears were done with a gun, and gun piercings are absolutely terrible and waaaay too violent.

For reference, I cried every time I got blood drawn until I was 11, so I'm a wimp.

I have a decent amount of metal in my face, and I can tell you this much:

-Nostril barely hurts at all. Seriously. I thought I'd be crying, but it was a tiny, TINY pinch and my eyes teared up (because of the location), and then it was done. However, nostrils run a high risk of hypertrophic scarring, which isn't dangerous, but can be a pain in the ass to make go away. Overall, the experience isn't bad, but healing can be a bit difficult. It hurts less than having blood drawn, and I'd rate it a 2 of 10 ( ... )

Yeah, my ears were done with a gun. At the same time. Which I've heard is VERY BAD. :/

It hurts less than having blood drawn

That's comforting, as I've had blood drawn before and it was no big deal.

For comparison, how would you rate the pain of getting your earlobe pierced?
How about cartilage? I've heard that's a lot more painful than the earlobe.

Oral piercings CAN cause gum recession

Ah, yeah. Definitely not getting one, then. When I was eight, I had to have a gum tissue graft from the roof of my mouth to the tissue covering my front lower teeth because there wasn't enough in that area.

You will get looked at differently by others, just a heads up.Oh yes, definitely. While not all of my family members are more conservative than the current "President", most of them are not open to piercings that aren't ear piercings. So I know that if I get anything else other than my ears done, I'll have to keep the other more "unconventional" piercings out for however long I'm visiting family ( ... )

Yeah, glad it helps!

As for reading material, I'll save you some:
-Join bodymods, there are some really amazing piercers there who are highly respected in the industry ( ... )

Other general tips:
-Don't buy the crap at Claire's. Sorry, but from personal experience, their body jewelry is made of cheap metal and your body will not like you. I recommend http://www.bodyartforms.com

-It's always helpful to know what gauge you're at/what you want.

-The term isn't "gauging," it's "stretching," and people wear plugs, not gauges (be warned: I know people who have said "gauged" at respected studios and they were laughed at by the piercers).

-Listen to your body. If something hurts, it usually means your body doesn't like what's going on.

-Never use bactine, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide to clean piercings.

-It's not infected unless it's hot to the touch, it's oozing actual pus (not lymph, but actual green or yellow pus), and is very very red ( ... )

mmmm

well, I've only got my ears pierced... I prersonally am not too fond of piercing, because most of the times they'll end up looking wrong.

I'd relaly like to have expansors tho... or more piercings on my ears, hahha... tehn again, my ears are pretty notorious already, so no...

The one facial piercing I'd get would be a Monroe one, but I'm a huge girl... and I could just paint it with make up XD
