Very well written, both the excerpt and your own writing, and both raise incredibly valid points. People are far too quick to assume that the next person over is 'The Enemy' because of an accident at birth, without ever looking at that person's life. This doesn't just apply for white men, it applies to anyone at all who is automatically assumed to have had life 'easy' for whatever reason.
Yes, even for some of those rich bankers or what have you. They don't all have it sunshine and roses, either. Many of them, just like the rest of us, had(and still have) to suffer through a lot. They lose family, they find their jobs threatened, they're held up at knife point. They face the same risks everyone else does.
Ultimately? The greatest 'Enemies' most of us will ever directly have are the people who assume that somehow, by right of birth, they have a monopoly on all the world's grievances and that the next guy over similarly has a monopoly on all the world's pleasures.
Also, yes. Vapid idiots who think that only certain types of clothing/whatever are socially acceptable will, unfortunately, likely remain vapid for much of their lives.
If only your so-called gifted school had the sense to teach this instead of everything you had recited back to me. Your father is a very interesting man and was one of my favorite parts of visiting you because he always managed to put a smile on my face even if I was tripping him in narrow hallways.
