I really like the backstory you've created for James. I wasn't sure you were going to go where you went with him at the beginning of this, but I definitely like this take. Also, the story you're telling here--especially with the resistance--really feels like the opposite of how the First War went. In a good way! I enjoy seeing the story told the other way around. :)
